Francis succeeded his father in 1609, was High Sheriff for Wiltshire in 1635 and married Sarah daughter of Sir Anthony Hungerford of Black Burton in Oxfordshire. They had two sons and three daughters. His full arms are: Quarterly 1 and 4. Gules a chevron vair between three crescents argent. (Goddard) 2 and 3. Azure five fusils in fess between three eagles heads erased or (Goddard of Ogbourn St George); crest a stag's head couped affronty; motto: cervus non servus.)

though the memorial tablet in Great Somerford church is clear that his wife was called Elizabeth. Either Sarah was his first or second wife, or it is a different Francis.
