Langton Lineage
SIR J. LANGTON of Huddleston, Yorkshire - d. 1459: gules a chevron ermine between three lions rampant gold. Blazoned in the Military roll of Henry VI for Langton, a Yorkshire knight, and Mayor of York.
This variation of the same coat of arms is recorded in the 1575 visitation of the north, attributed to Sir John Langton above, in other sources. The brass on his tomb shows his arms impaled with those of his wifes family: Aske. Sir John died in 1459.
Langton: Gules a cheveron ermine between three lions argent.
These same arms are recorded quartered within the Winter families shield dated to the marriage of Mary Langton to Admiral William Winter in 1566. Mary's Father Thomas - a skinner - had moved from Yorkshire to London previously and married Mary Matthews, who after his death went on to marry Andrew Judde and later James Altham.
These arms were also recorded on the tomb of Mary Langton's sister, Jane who married John Barne of Willesdon, Middlesex.
These are also recorded, temp Henry VI.
These arms also recorded under Hundleston, Yorkshire.
These arms were recorded in 1620 in the church at Caverley, Yorkshire. The arms appeared in the stained glass. Its possible that Sable is a mistake for Azure.
