  • Welsh Coat of Arms

    By Joel Langton

    April 2010

    Henllys, Gower, Wales

The origin of these Langtons is a little sketchy. They are present early and are fairly prominent in the area.

There is a suggestion that they came over with William the Conquerer, though this seems unlikely given their Anglo-Saxon name. The only possibility of this being true, would lie with the name lanquetot, changing to Langton over time in Wales. This seems highly unlikely however.

We have this coat of arms for William Langton of Henllys. Fourteenth century. These same arms but with Green instead of Blue, turn up attributed to a Ralph Langton centuries later though no location is given.

    DNA and Shield Linking

We hope to be able to link the various Y chromosome DNA results to coats of arms, so that you can use your DNA test results to identify which coat of arms are yours! We do need your help with this though, we need your DNA results, check out the DNA articles here.
